A disease has swept the country killing children without any warning. Those who survive emerge with strange abilities that they do not know how to control. Ruby wakes up on her 10th birthday, being spared by this disease. Something about her is terrifying... terrifying enough for her parents to lock her in the garage and call the police. Ruby is taken to a brutal government "rehabilitation camp". She may have survived the disease that claimed every other kid that she knew, but she is about to experience something worse than death.
Now, at sixteen, she is able to escape the camp with her life in search for the only place that is safe for kids like her... East River. Ruby is joined by three other kids who escaped from their own camp in search for this supposed safe haven.
But East River isn't exactly as it seems. With many different forces all searching for Ruby and her dangerous power, Ruby must decide whether to save the people she loves or finally have a life worth living.

I absolutely adored this book. All of the main characters were wonderfully sarcastic and funny. I love how strong the protagonist is and the psychological issues everyone, even those who are barely even mentioned, go through. I thought the road trip was fantastic and I found encounters with the skip tracers and PSFs very entertaining and awesome. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. It's got action, humor, a road trip, special powers, a romance, family, and everything you could ever ask for ever.

Star Rating: 4.99 (because nothing is perfect)
