Top Ten Tuesday Part Five: Books That Have Made An Impact On My Life

I was inspired to do this list by Jules over at The Book of Jules. I thought that making a list like that was a good way to share my nostalgia of the books that started my wonderful reading journey and what books I will always remember. None of these books are in a particular order because they all mean so much to me.

10) Junie B. Jones Series by Barbara Park
This was the very first series I ever remember reading, or more specifically, read to me. My mom would always read this books to me and I absolutely fell in love. I have a heart condition and when I was in kindergarten, I had heart surgery to fix some things and I was almost always connected to an oxygen tank. Since I couldn't get up and play like a normal kid, I had to stay in bed all day, so to raise my spirits, my mom and occasionally my brother would read these to me and the silliness just made me so happy. Looking back, I realize that these books are what really gave me a love for stories.

9) Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish
Amelia Bedelia was my whole childhood. My mom would always read these books to me, although I can only remember two, the very first Amelia Bedelia and the Halloween one. These books are so silly and cute and I always remember immense joy when hearing these stories.

8) Judy Moody Series by Megan McDonald
My most fond memory of the Judy Moody series is when I help build a model of one of the scenes for a third grade project for one of my friend's little sister. These books are silly and Judy Moody is so weird and awesome. I only read the first three books and I still have them on my shelves. The only thing bad about these books in there is blue crayon all over one of the books because, for some odd reason, I put them on my bedside table and my 1 and 2 year old nieces were staying my room and they decided that it would fun to color all over them. It makes me sad, but those books hold so many memories, I can't bear to get new copies or to throw the old ones away. I know it's weird I read these when I was older than the target age, but I promise I'm not that weird.

7) Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson
This books is possibly one of darkest children's books ever. The main character literally has to drag the body of one of her loved ones to a mass grave down the street where she stares at a pit filled with dead bodies and there is only one guy left to put the bodies in there. I think that is why I love it so much. I know that sounds weird, but when I read it in 5th grade, it was so like all of the other books I had ever read.

6) Escaping the Giant Wave by Peg Kehret
I don't exactly remember everything about this book, but I do remember enjoying it. I had to read this book for a competition type thing at my school and I was an expert on this book. Our team only lost because our "coach" didn't put me in that round and we missed one question and it was on this book and I knew the answer! I think that's why this book has impacted me so much.

5) Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt
I read this book in school and fell in love. Yes, I do think it was weird that a "seventeen" year old fell in love with an eleven year old (one reason I really enjoy the movie is Winnie is older and it makes more sense), but I did like. This is one of the books that really got me into the whole reading thing. At first though, I didn't want to read it because my teacher had said it's like Twilight, but he was very wrong, though I think he said only because he really wanted the girls in the group to choose it because he wanted to read it again.

4) Charlotte's Web by E.B. White
This was the very first book I flew through. I sat in front of my bed and read it in one day. Of course I already knew what happened at the end, but I still loved it and it will always have a place in my heart.

3) The Selection Series by Kiera Cass
This series is actually what got me into YA, believe it or not. I hadn't really read anything until my friend was talking about this book and I decided to give it a go because she made it sound really interesting. And it actually got me into watching BookTube. I was looking at Kiera Cass's YouTube channel (don't ask me why), and I saw a review video for it, so I clicked on it. My very first BookTube video was CassJayTuck's review of the Selection and my second BookTube video was a review of the Selection from Polandbananasbooks. Without these books, this blog probably wouldn't exist because I was originally going to make a YouTube channel, but decided to do this instead and I am so happy I did.

2) The Restoration Series by Terri Blackstock
I talk about these books so much. I am so thankful that I read these books when I did because I read them right before my mom had a stroke and these books made my believe that God could get my family through anything if He could get the family in these books through all of the things they went through. I know a lot of people don't share my beliefs and I am totally okay with that, but everyone should give these books a try, especially if you are curious about or just want more information about Christianity. These books were also the first big books that I ever read and I was so proud of myself when I finished the series. I wish so much that I owned the series so I can reread them again and again!

1) The Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan
You all know how much Percy Jackson means to me. He is what really got me into reading, though I didn't start reading YA until the Selection. After I read the Percy Jackson series, I started reading anything and everything. I'm still convinced I'd be in the Athena cabin, but I haven't been attacked by anything yet.

Thank you for reading. This list was so much fun to make and I can't wait to hear about some the books that you guys love.
