The TBR and Unread Books Tag

Sorry I didn't post last week. I've been buried under a mountain of homework with a cold. Anyway, today I bring to you the TBR and Unread Books Tag orignally created by Danni Darling and I was tagged by Sarah @YA Bookaholic back in May so...

1. How many unread and read books do you have?

Read: 42 (not counting the family bookshelf)
Unread (24 also not counting the family bookshelf)
*Please keep in mind that I recently started collecting books and I plan on both categories getting VERY big

2. The book that has sat the longest on your shelves?

Out of my read books, Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins box sets. I got them at the same time.
Out of my unread books, Stormchasers by Jenna Blum.

3. Number one book on your TBR that you want to read but haven't gotten around to yet?

It's a tie between The Help by Kathryn Stockett and We Were Liars by E. Lockhart.

4. A book you want to rad more than anything, but don't own yet?

Hands down, Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout and the fourth book of The Arcana Chronicles by Kresley Cole. I loved the first few books in both of these series and I CANNOT wait to get my hands on either of them.

5. A book you don't remember buying but haven't read yet?

I don't have an answer for this one because I remember where each and everyone of my books came from.

6. A book you have that you don't think you'll get around to reading but haven't gotten rid of yet?

Probably Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. I started reading it one year for English class, hated it and did not finish. I had to use notes online for my project. I like to give every book a second chance, but I'm not so sure about this one.

7. A book you feel guilty about not reading yet?

The Help, most likely. I was in a time crunch during my first attempt and I started to enjoy it, but didn't have enough time to finish it, so I just never have.

8. A book series you've heard about non-stop, but have no interest in reading?

I talked about these two in the Unpopular Opinions Book Tag, so if you read that post, I'm sure you know what I'm about to say. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon  and A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.

I'm sure everyone and their mother has already done this tag, so I will not be tagging anyone. I hope you enjoyed and I will see ya'll soon with another post!

Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

Once I saw this tag on YouTube, I thought, "YES! FINALLY!" It's great when we tell people of our favorite reads, but it's not often we get to warn people of the books we hate. This tag was created by TheBookArcher. I did a Top Ten Tuesday a while back about Books I Cannot Stand. In that post, I sugar coated things a little, but I'm going to be a little more...transparent in this one.

DISCLAIMER: I don't mean to offend anyone with my opinions. They are just that, opinions. Everyone is entitled to them. You do not have to feel the same way I do about a particular book, author, or character.

1. A popular book or series that you just didn't like.

There are a few, but the series I HATE the most that I feel is very popular with the majority of the book community is Matched by Allie Condie. I cannot express in words how much I despised this book: the characters were insufferable, the plot was way too predictable, the world building was lacking, and I didn't like the writing style. I did read Crossed, which I did like better than the first book. I didn't even read Reached, I read the first few paragraphs and decided it wasn't worth it. Some other honorable mentions:

  • Divergent by Veronica Roth
  • Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas (it wasn't too bad though)
  • Lord of the Flies by William Golding
  • Animal Farm by George Orwell

2. A popular book or series that everyone seems to hate, but you love.

People don't necessarily hate this book series, but I just haven't heard tons of love for it, which is the Razorland trilogy by Ann Aguirre.

3. A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with or an OTP that you don't like.

I am not caught up in the Throne of Glass series (I have only finished up to Crown of Midnight) and I have wanted her to be with Chaol, but where things are headed, I'm sure she'll get with Dorian. Also (SPOILER...kind of) I don't like Magnus and Alec together. I think they are a bad match.

4. A popular book genre you hardly reach for.

Classics. I just don't find them appealing.

5. A popular or beloved character you do not like.

It's not that I don't like this character, it's that I didn't like her as much as I was expecting to, Lola from Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. Don't get me wrong, I loved that book, but I was expecting to really like her, I just felt sort of "meh" about her and I didn't like a lot of her decisions.

6. A popular author you can't seem to get into.

Most definitely Sarah J. Maas and Andrew Smith. I've read Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight, but I wasn't as blown away as other people and I just don't have any motivation to read any Andrew Smith books.

7. A popular book trope you are getting tired of seeing.

Teen girls with brown hair that some life changing event happens to and she understands what is going on pretty quickly and kicks butt/she knows exactly what is going on and kicks butt. Very specific, I know, but for once, I want to see our main character have NO IDEA what they are doing, not really have anyone to help them figure it our, and are so bad at fighting, they win fights (sometimes) by mistake. I want to see a protagonist who would act 100% normal. And parents who have clue what is going on what so ever or who are never there. It annoys me. WHY DO ALL YA PROTAGONISTS HAVE TO NEGLECTFUL OR CLUELESS PARENTS???

8. A popular series that you have no interest in reading.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, I even have no interest in either of the shows. Sorry.

9. They saying goes, "The book is always better than the movie," but what movie or TV show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

One hundred percent, The Hunger Games movies. Don't get me wrong, I love the books, but there is only so much we can see from Katniss's perspective. The movies do a fantastic job of expanding the universe and helping the audience see the magnitude of the situations presented in the story and how far things really went. I also love what they've to represent the Capital visually and all of the futuristic inventions. In my head, it looked very weird, but it all made sense when I saw on screen. Although, the Percy Jackson movies were pretty great adaptations... just kidding. I literally wanted to punch myself in the face just writing that, even if it was a joke.

If you have similar feelings, let me know in the comments so we can form a club and defend ourselves against the haters! Truly, these are only my opinions and if you do not agree, totally cool! I would like to tag:

Seven Deadly Sins Tag

I was tagged forever ago by Athena at InToTheMindOfTheReader and recently by Sarah at YA Bookaholic. So, I thought I should do it!

1. Greed- What is your most expensive and inexpensive books?

My most expensive book was The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I don't know why it was so expensive. It was like, $30. Yes, I got the hardcover, but it wasn't special edition of anything. It was unreasonably expensive. And I still bought it.

I've gotten a lot of eBooks for free, but one of my favorite ones that I got for free was Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

2. Wrath- What is an author that you have a love hate relationship with?

Not really hate, exactly, but I guess Rick Riordan because I read Percy Jackson and loved it, thought Heroes of Olympus was okay (I actually haven't finished the series, but believe me, I want to), and I couldn't even get through book one in The Kane Chronicles. I still love Rick Riordan, but sometimes I just loose the motivation to finish.

3. Gluttony- What book have you devoured over and over again with no shame?

Hands down, The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. I reread that book constantly. But, I think I have reread The 5th Wave by Rick Riordan the same amount of times.

4. Sloth- What book have you neglected due to laziness?

I haven't really neglected books because I was too lazy to read them, mostly because I don't have it. I guess I could say I'm too lazy to pay my fine at the library so that I could check out new books.

5. Pride- What book do you talk about in order to sound like an intellectual reader?

I've never really read a classic or something considered the height of literary perfection because I simply don't care if I sound like an intellectual reader. If I want to sound like one, I'm sure I could think really deeply about a book I've read and make myself sound really smart, but I don't want to do that, so...

6. Lust- What attributes do you like to see in male or female characters?

For male characters, just to be super sweet, protective (but not overly, just enough to show that he cares), and to have a sense of humor. I hate male characters that are overly macho because they just take the lead without taking the opinions of the female characters and I don't like that.

I can't stand books where the main female protagonist is weak and just lets the men do whatever. It's annoying because I like to connect with characters and I can't do that if she isn't just a tad bit stubborn and doesn't stand up for herself.

7. Envy- What book would you like to receive as a gift?

I would really love to get The Darkest Minds in hardcover since I have the paperback and it's all torn up from overuse by myself and my friends who borrowed it. I would also like to get a new Never Fade hardcover because, a while ago, I dropped it down the stairs and there was just a little crack on the spine. No big deal, still readable. Then I let a friend borrow it after she read the first book. The crack got a little worse, but it was fine and same when another friend borrowed it. Then, It's the End of 2014 Day 2 happened. The challenge that day was to make a rainbow out of your books. Not really too hard, right? So I was pulling books off of my shelves and I was putting a couple books in the rainbow and I see out of the corner of my eye, to my terror, books falling off of the shelves and crashing to the floor. And that's why the spine of Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken is completely destroyed and I would like a new one. (And if you are interesting in see a picture, I tweeted about it, so go see it @booking_awesome and follow me if you would like)

That's the tag! I am going to tag Charlotte from Bookmarks and Blogging and you! If you haven't done the tag feel free to do it and say I tagged you! And give me the link to it in the comments so I can check it out!

Taylor Swift Book Tag

Taylor Swift's songs just make me want to dance, so when I saw there was a tag going around revolving around Taylor Swift songs, I had to do it! I don't know who created it, but I have seen so many people do it and it looked like fun!

We Are Never Getting Back Together: Pick a book you were pretty sure you were in love with but then wanted to break up with.

For this one, I'm going to have to go with Divergent by Veronica Roth. Please don't hurt me, but I just don't really like this book. I did finish it and I finished Insurgent, too, but I didn't bother with Allegiant. There was just something about the way things were described, it was too simplistic and boring. I also think that the world wasn't built to its full potential. I picked this book because I thought I was going to love it, but I didn't at all. Then I thought I loved the series because I thought Insurgent was pretty good and then Allegiant happened.

Red: Pick a book with a red cover.

I am picking Pirate's Wish by Cassandra Rose Clarke because the whole cover is red. I haven't read the book yet, but I really want to and I need to get the first book!

The Best Day: Pick a book that makes you feel nostalgic.

I will be picking Junie B. Jones by Barbara Park. I talked all about these in Top Ten Tuesday Part Four. Basically these are the books that got me into stories and story telling and without them, I probably would not be the reader I am today.

Love Story: Pick a book with forbidden love.

I am going to choose one that I don't think a lot of people will choose and that is Captured by Erica Stevens. A human isn't allowed to fall in love with a vampire and vice versa, especially if that vampire is the prince and the human is a rebel against the ruling vampire race.

I Knew You Were Trouble: Pick a book with a bad character you couldn't help but love.

I'm going to take bad not as in evil, but in a bad boy kind of way. This one is hard for me because I don't usually fall for the "bad boys" of YA literature, but I am going to pick Daemon from the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Daemon is the only exception to the bad boy rule because I feel like the bad boyishness is a facade that he puts up to scare people away. Keep in mind though, I've only read the first book, so I don't know how things go.

Innocent: Pick a book that someone ruined the ending of.

I have three for this one. The first is Allegiant by Veronica Roth (Thank you Christine from Polandbananasbooks), The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (Thanks best friend), and Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan (Thanks best friend). I am not going to talk about how because I don't want to spoiler anyone. Maybe I should stop talking about books to my best friend.

Everything Has Changed: Pick a book that has a character who goes through extensive character development.

I am going to pick Stalker from the Razorland Saga by Ann Aguirre. When we first see him, he is a tough gang leader who doesn't treat women nicely and as the series progresses, he becomes a leader of a section in an army and becomes a good person and realizes the mistakes he has made and regrets them terribly.

Forever and Always: Pick your favorite book couple.

I go with... I don't know, I really hate this question. Percabeth I guess.

You Belong With Me: Pick you most anticipated release.

I am going with In the Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken. I am so ready for this book you have no idea. I want it in my hands right now. I can't wait until Christmas because I am getting it. I don't care if I receive it as a present or I go buy it myself. I WILL GET HIS BOOK BY CHRISTMAS!!!

Come Back, Be Here: Pick a book you wouldn't lend out to anyone for fear of missing it too much.

I choose all of the books because I will never ever ever lend out my books ever.

Tear Drops on My Guitar: Pick a book that made you cry.

I choose Horde by Ann Aguirre. I can't talk about because I kind of don't want to go on a tangent and spoilers.

Shake It Off: Pick a book that you love so much that you just have to shake off the haters.

I pick The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey because some people don't like it, especially the romance between Cassie and Evan, but I don't mind it, so I just got to shake off the haters, 'cause haters gonna hate.

There it is! That was fun and I encourage all, especially Charlotte at Bookmarks and Blogging, Once Upon a Time at Magical World of Books, and Sarah at YA Bookaholic and all of the participants in the It's the End of 2014 Read-A-Thon who have Youtube channels and blogs! Of course, you can do the tag if you want because I tag all the people! If you do the tag, make sure to leave a link in the comments so I can check it out!
